Integrated Solutions, a division of IT 4 the Planet hosted its first annual Cyber Security Lunch n’ Learn in Birmingham, Alabama on May 31, 2017. The keynote speaker was FBI Supervisory Special Agent Darren Mott. Darren’s presentation was focused on “Where have we been and where are we heading”. Specifically:
- A brief history of the growth of the FBI’s Cyber Division
- Notable Cyber Events
- In 2017 what are the Cyber Security threats
- Nation states Cyber threats
- Anatomy of a “hack”
- Concerns and risks going forward
- Protection – Incident Preparedness
Conclusion: Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid and nobody expects to be a victim. If you call the FBI it’s too late, if the FBI calls you it’s very bad. International laws are always going to be an issue. Ninety (90) percent of Intrusions start with a spear phished email.
Bottom line: It’s a scary world for businesses owners. There is a false sense of security among business owners because most have not experienced a Cyber attack. There are steps that can be taken to help prevent an event within a business, but there are no guarantees…..businesses are vulnerable and will continue to be vulnerable. A proactive approach regarding Cyber Security is much better than a reactive approach which in some cases can be devastating. At IT 4 the Planet and Integrated Solutions we have certified technicians who are seasoned in security and HIPAA assessments with remediation steps as part of the deliverables. Give us a call… we can help you prepare and protect your infrastructure against the real and ever changing Cyber security threats!
